Collaborative research on viaduct solutions for transport infrastructure

As Southern Vietnam - particularly the Mekong Delta region - continues to face multiple challenges in transport infrastructure, including a severe shortage of embankment materials, weak soil conditions, and increasingly stringent environmental protection requirements, viaduct construction has emerged as an essential and sustainable solution. This approach offers cost optimization, faster project execution, and greater long-term durability for infrastructure works.

On April 12, the Construction Corporation No. 1 – JSC (CC1) hosted a scientific seminar titled “Viaduct Solutions for Transport Infrastructure in Southern Vietnam.” The event welcomed the participation of Mr. Dang Kien Hung – CEO of Phan Vu Group, and Mr. Lu Trieu Duong – Director of Phan Vu’s Technology & Engineering Department, alongside numerous leading experts, engineers, and consultants from across the construction industry. The seminar focused on discussing and sharing advanced construction technologies for viaducts, especially in highway, railway, and port infrastructure projects. The solutions presented emphasized not only minimizing environmental impacts, but also ensuring long-term structural durability and optimizing investment costs — key pillars in the sustainable development strategy for infrastructure in the Southern region.

A highlight of the event was the official launch of the Viaduct Solution Research Group, a collaborative technical alliance comprised of 9 reputable organizations from various sectors including construction, consulting, materials manufacturing, and technical training:Construction Corporation No. 1 – JSC (CC1); Hoa Binh Co., Ltd; Phan Vu Investment Corporation; Nippon Steel Vietnam Co., Ltd; Vietnam Industrial GS; VGSI Pile Co., Ltd; Invest Global Consulting & Investment JSC; Vietnam Concrete Association (VCA); Vietnam Pile Industry Association (VPIA); University of Transport and Communications – Ho Chi Minh City Campus (UTC2).

Ông Phan Khắc Long - Chủ tich VPIA, Phó chủ tịch VCA phát biểu tại sự kiện

This group was founded based on principles of voluntary, non-profit cooperation, functioning as an open technical forum where stakeholders collaboratively research, test, and propose the most advanced viaduct technologies. It also aims to act as a sustainable engineering ecosystem, promoting knowledge exchange and the development of localized, practical solutions.

At the seminar, Mr. Lu Trieu Duong, Technical Director of Phan Vu, delivered a key presentation on the topic:
“Application of Centrifugal Prestressed Concrete Piles for Railway, Highway, and Port Infrastructure.”

Phan Vu’s solution focused on using PHC (Prestressed High-strength Concrete) Piles, known for their:

  • High load-bearing capacity

  • Rapid installation speed

  • Long-term structural stability

  • Excellent performance in soft soil conditions, which are typical across the Mekong Delta

In addition, PHC piles provide significant advantages over traditional foundation methods:

  • Substantial cost savings in ground treatment

  • Reduced foundation construction time for viaduct projects

  • Enhanced foundation safety and lifespan

  • Minimized environmental disruption

This innovative approach received strong interest and positive feedback from seminar attendees and has further enriched Vietnam’s growing repository of modern viaduct construction technologies.
